There are two types of Snow Fungus: semi-wild (segmented wood) and bagged (artificial greenhouse). For the latter one, the spores are planted in plastic bags filled with wood chips, wheat brans, rice brans & cotton seed shells etc. Nutrient solution is injected for the spores. It takes 40-45 days to grow. Yield is high and production can be all year round so cost is much lower.
Semi-wild snow fungus is grown on 7-year-old segmented wood. It relies entirely on the nutrients of the wood to grow in a natural environment. The growth conditions are close to those of the wild, so it is called semi-wild. The growth cycle is long (8 months) and only one harvest a year, so the output is small and the price is high.
Will using segmented wood for planting destroy local forest resources?
The vitality of the birch oak tree is very tenacious. The place where it is cut will continue to grow, and a thick trunk will grow out after a few years. Moreover, each log can be used for 4-5 years. The villagers would not over cut the wood to destroy the forest.

用段木種植會破壞當地的森林資源嗎？ 樺櫟樹的生命力很頑強，用刀斧砍斷的地方會繼續生長，幾年後又會長出粗粗的樹幹來，而且每段原木可以用4-5年，鄉親也不會過度砍伐，破壞森林。
